Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Planners groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
